The Gillespie group excels in pouring underlayment and installing finished floors, but where do these layers fall on the flooring system? Floors generally consist of these four layers, in order:

  • Joists – Foundation and frame of the flooring often made with wood
  • Subfloor – Structured plywood layer beneath the underlayment
  • Underlayment – Smooth, flat, durable layer that adds stability for the surface flooring
  • Floor Covering – Topmost part of flooring often consisting of carpet, vinyl, tile, and other materials
